Who's online?

The internet being such the norm today, we look at the younger generations as the "Net Generation". They do not know a life without computers and the internet. As the internet becomes a household feature all over the world, this is not the only generation online. More than half the population online is between 18-44 years old.
More and more of the older generations are online, but all generations use the internet differently.
Generation Y is using the internet for entertainment and communicating with friends. Using the social networks.
Generation X is banking, shopping and looking for health information. Generation X account for 67% online banking and 80% products online.
Boomers use the internet less for socializing and more for a tool for information searches, email and buying products.

a recent 2009 conducted by the Pew Internet & American Life Project.

Thoughts:
Although the younger generations are known for their sometimes excessive use of computers and perceived knowledge of new incoming updates, devices and fads, does their activity online really serve as an asset to business? They can play games, figure out twitter, facebook and the many other networking, friend building areas online, but can they figure out how to achieve successful business transactions?
Computer classes, information gathering etc. may be more of an important class to teach these generations. Assuming they know how to use the internet and a computer for a career, business and generating income, could be a mistake.
