How are you communicating? Are you getting your message across? In a setting with many different generations and even cultures, how you communicate reflects strongly on how people perceive you.
Being conscious of how the different generations communicate, and being aware that your message may be construed as something different, will help in breaking down communication barriers.
Are you fully aware of how generations communicate differently? Most communication problems involve the misunderstanding of how things are said. The message may be the same in each generation but it is communicated differently and interpreted differently.
Gen Y especially, like to talk about themselves with their bosses, it shows that they are cared for and their bosses are concerned. Eventually business matters will discussed.
With older generations, business is first, you are there to do a job. A conversation about business matters need to balanced so all are comfortable.
